 Congratulations
to Julie Spigner and Rachel Reeves as they were selected
to join Team Florida in the 2006 King Kamehameha Volleyball
Classic this past July in Honolulu, Hawaii. Coach Tiffany
traveled with the girls to Hawaii as their interpreter.
Coach and the girls had the opportunity to do some sightseeing
and even visited the Hawaii Center for The Deaf and
Blind. They learned some new signs that are native to
the Hawaiian people. They also had the opportunity to
visit Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head and of course, Waikiki
beach, where they took surfing lessons. The highlight
of the week was the traditional Hawaiian luau where
they enjoyed a Hawaiian feast and entertainment Hawaii
style!
The opening ceremonies for the Volleyball Classic began
on Friday where Rachel and Julie participated in the
Hawaiian version of Fear Factor and competition in the
Hawaiian Olympics. The girls were true sports, even
when asked to eat the nasty Fear Factor cuisine! Tournament
play was Saturday and
 Sunday
and competition was stiff. There were 36 teams overall
that participated in the tournament and we are so proud
that Team Florida held their own and won the Bronze
division! Way to go ladies!
However, this would not have been possible without the
support of all of their sponsors! Coach Tiffany, Julie
and Rachel would like to send out a big THANK
YOU to everyone who helped make this trip a
reality. They worked hard for several months fundraising
for this trip but they would not have been successful
without all the support and encouragement from the
sponsors and the staff at FSDB. What an awesome
experience for all three and again, they would like
to thank everyone who made this trip possible!
Hawaii Center for the Deaf and the Blind (HCDB), located
on 5.1 acres in the Kapahulu District of Honolulu, one-fourth
mile from Waikiki Beach.
